Is the God of the Bible good?

 Genesis 3:5 examination

"For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."

In this verse is the first mention of evil.  Note that before the serpent began speaking to Eve, Adam and Eve did not know of evil; all they knew was good.  This identifies God as a good God, one that wants and plans good for his creation.  It identifies God as someone that wants his creation to avoid evil and the effects thereof.

This verse also identifies the serpent as a bringer of evil, someone standing in opposition to God.  Remember, before the serpent came, the human race did not know what evil was.  All they knew was good.

"..then your eyes shall be opened.." In this section, the serpent is making the claim that God is keeping them blinded from evil, as though not experiencing the effects of evil is somehow an evil thing.  The serpent is also presenting evil as something good, which by definition, it is not.

Another thing found in this verse, already touched on previously, is the presentation of evil as being a good thing.  "..in the day ye eat thereof,.." (when you do the evil thing) "..then your eyes shall be opened,.." (you will be made wise in the ways of the world)(Herein is the first mention of 'experiential wisdom', a.k.a. 'How do you know you don't like it unless you try it?") "..and ye shall be as gods,.." (when you start doing the evil thing, you grow beyond yourself and become a god even as God is)(The serpent quietly is making the claim that God is not the only God, but that there are many.  Not only that, but the serpent is also making the assertion that God is merely an "ascended being" (he was once like us) and that God wants to hog all the worship (and right to receive it) for himself.))(As the true and living God, it is his right to receive all worship and to not have another receive it.)
