Linguistic Origins Of Malaysia

Malaysia - from the Turkic 'Malatya,' the name of a city in eastern Anatolia province in Turkey, the site of a recently discovered ancient adobe throne.(1)  Malatya was known to the Assyrians as Meliddu, located on the Tohma River, a tributary of the upper Euphrates rising in the Taurus mountains.(2)  It was called by the Hittites, Malidiya.(2)  Malatya, Malaysia, Meliddu, and Malidiya all appear to be derivatives of the Tamil word 'malai' meaning 'mountain.'  Thus, Malaysia should mean, 'land of the mountains.'
