Climate Change: A Sobering Experience
line

If you recently moved to a place like Florida and haven't experienced a hurricane before, the idea of being stuck in one probably evokes a decent amount of anxiety and stress. If you grew up in a place like Florida (or at least have resided there for a number of years), if someone says the word "hurricane," you hear "no work" and "party by candle-light."

A good hurricane survival pack includes water, flashlights, canned soup, and lots of beer - lots and lots of beer. If you're sober during a hurricane, you're a newbie.

Ironically, what may be causing a surge in hurricanes and other natural disasters may also be the reason you'll be sober in future ones.

According to this article in NPR, the ability to effectively and inexpensively grow malted barley is being affected by our changing climate, which means now we have to worry about the seals AND our favorite beers becoming extinct.

Bars In The Boonies

Many older people complain that the millennials and the following generations (Gen something - I can't keep up with the labels) are responsible for the demise of restaurant chains like Applebee's and Olive Garden.

To be frank, I'm ok with that because what has arisen in the demise of crappy, unimaginative chains with subpar food is a new wave of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops that are spectacularly creative and innovative.

Don't get me wrong - many of these places still rely on pretentious music, hot servers, and overpriced drinks to pack the house, but usually, there is still something fundamentally unique about each venue. In an extremely competitive market, you almost HAVE to be a one-of-a-kind place. Otherwise, you'll lose your clientele to the bar down the street that has clown strippers.

Enter Baby Baby: a hangout area in Copenhagen that is unlike anything you've seen before. Instead of competing for high-end real estate, these people decided to invest in a dilapidated area, long forgotten by most citizens, and the results are amazing.
