Friend, my name is Sahar and I was an IDF Lone Soldier.
Born and raised in Orange County, California, I dreamt of joining the Givati Brigade. I enlisted in the IDF and was one of the few soldiers accepted into Rimon, the most elite unit.
During Operation Protective Edge, my unit was called upon to protect the country we love.

I will never forget July 29th. Stationed in the south of Gaza, my unit received intelligence that terrorists were close by. We went to the location and found one of the largest tunnels leading into Israel — along with kilos of gunpowder and bombs.
My unit went inside the tunnels while I waited outside, alone, serving as their only protection.
The next thing I knew, four Hamas terrorists were charging at me, shooting and throwing grenades. My weapon jammed; I had no cover.
I had no time to think, just act. The lives of my friends were in my hands. I sprang into action — and I prevailed.
I am proud to have played a role in protecting my people.
