Chris Christi attacks parents' rights

This isn't right.

It’s time to fight back.

New Jersey’s Gov. Chris Christie just signed a bill into law taking away your family’s freedom, at the behest of the new gay rights movement.

What if you had a teenage son struggling with same-sex attraction? What if he wanted to live his life according to Biblical values and needed a counselor’s help? Too bad, says the governor of New Jersey. He put his name to a new law that bans all licensed counselors from helping minor teens dealing with unwanted same-sex attraction.

This bill doesn’t just ban a particular kind of ineffective or destructive therapy. It says, and I quote,

“As used in this section, ‘sexual orientation change efforts’ means the practice of seeking to change a person’s sexual orientation, including, but not limited to, efforts to change behaviors, gender identity, or gender expressions, or to reduce or eliminate sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward a person of the same gender; except that sexual orientation change efforts shall not include counseling for a person seeking to transition from one gender to another.”

Professional counseling for Christian teens is now banned in New Jersey and by a Republican governor who wants to be your president in 2016.

Gov. Chris Christie tried to claim he was just doing what the science says to protect children from licensed Christian counseling.

But even the APA which opposes counseling based on the idea homosexuality is a disorder, admits that patients have a right to self-determination, and that sexual orientation change efforts sometimes help people.

Consider people like Jeff Bennion. Jeff is a man who struggled with same-sex attraction for many years. Now he’s happily married for 9 years with a wife and child. In his New York Post Op-Ed, “A Low Attack on Same-Sex Therapy,” Bennion says:

“The client’s right to determine the course of his own therapy is a touchstone of modern psychotherapy. So the effort to deny people access to this therapy not only infringes on my right to self-determination, it violates the ethical standards of every major mental-health association.”

Prof. Nicholas Cummings, former president of the American Psychological Association, wrote an article for USA Today defending the right of those individuals with same-sex attractions who desire therapy to pursue it.

In his op-ed, called “Sexual reorientation therapy not unethical: Southern Poverty Law Center wrongly fighting against patients’ right to choose,” Cummings wrote:

“Attempting to characterize all sexual reorientation therapy as ‘unethical’ violates patient choice and gives an outside party a veto over patients’ goals for their own treatment.”

Did you ever imagine this would happen in America?

Did you imagine one of the leading contenders for the GOP nomination would proudly put his name to a bill banning professional counseling for Christian teens facing unwanted same-sex attraction??

Christie had expressed his concerns about government limiting the choices of parents in the care of their children, but I guess he just shrugged his shoulders and said “what the heck” and signed this absurd bill anyway.
