Shortly after 4:00 pm on Friday, May 31st, I was leaving work when an emergency dispatcher in Virginia Beach had the dreadful task of dispatching emergency response units to the scene of an active shooting. Being a volunteer emergency medical technician for the city of Virginia Beach, I received a mass casualty incident alert asking for members to "man their stations."
