Liberty Beats Episode 3: "Common Core, Uncommon Conformity" Freesong of the Political Observer. Watch here... As expected, the House overwhelmingly passed legislation (H.R. 24) to audit the Federal Reserve with a vote of 333-92. This goes to show that bringing transparency to the central bank is a bipartisan issue that transcends party lines. FreedomWorks will be scoring this important vote in our congressional scorecard to hold legislators accountable. Thank you to all the activists who called their representative and urged them to vote yes! Read more here... Why am I a young Black Conservative Republican? All my life I have always been different. I wasn't easy to persuade and didn't think the same as others. People say I am an old soul. I grew up in a violent drug ridden neighborhood where it was easy to get caught up in a drug or gang culture. My mom moved us to a better safer community. I have always been interested in history and political matters, but growing up I idolized Democrats like North Carolina native John Edwards and former President Bill Clinton. I was a strong Democrat supporter as a kid, but as I grew up I started to question the Democrat Party and why Blacks were so loyal to them. I found out that the Democrat Party was pro-slavery, pro-segregation and pro-abortion. That the Democrat Party sterilized Blacks so they wouldn't have more children. As a child I asked why would anyone support the Democrat Party? I asked my elders they had no answers! Read more here... The Institute for Justice is leading a class-action lawsuit against the city of Philadelphia and its' civil forfeiture practices. This litigation comes in light of the city seizing a family's home because unbeknownst to the parents, their son made a drug deal on the property worth $40. Civil forfeiture laws allow police departments to seize private property, sell it, and use the proceeds to fund their operations. The real owners of seized property do not have to be convicted or even charged with a crime to lose their property. Government can seize property, such as a car or home, if it's found to "facilitate" a crime. In essence, the government sues the property itself. Read more here... "If you aren't willing to fight for what you believe, do not cry about what you will lose." I have no idea who this quote is from, but I love it. I think it's fitting of the upcoming Speaker's race for the Texas House. What do I mean? I mean that if you aren't willing to fight for a new, conservative Speaker of the House, then don't cry about what you will lose. What will we lose? The conservative stronghold that we have maintained here in Texas, despite the current speaker's liberal influence. Let's introduce the players, shall we? We have incumbent Joe Straus, with known ties to Democrats and a history of stalling conservative legislation. We now thankfully also have Scott Turner, a staunch conservative who has vowed to his family and his supporters to see this race through to the bitter end. Not only that, he has promised to make the vote for speaker an 'on the record' vote for all of the state representatives so that their constituents can see. No more closed door, back room deals on Speaker of the House. Read more here... Paid for by FreedomWorks, Matt Kibbe, President – 400 North Capitol Street, NW Suite 765 Washington, DC 20001 | By now, most people following the continuing saga of the U.S. Export-Import Bank have heard about how it guaranteed loans to now-bankrupt solar energy company Solyndra. Solyndra was a big news story when it went bust, because of the stimulus money it took and the preferential treatment it was given because green energy mandates took preference over sensible investment. But if Solyndra was the poster child for government-sponsored green energy boondoggles, a Spanish company called Abengoa has taken things to the next level. Read more here...
